BOPP is readily recyclable where the infrastructure is established. Innovia’s BOPP tobacco films are recycle ready and have been certified by Interseroh an independent German Recycling and Consulting company confirming that they are fully recyclable.
There is a major shift to improve the recyclability of product packaging and also to look at ways of reducing carbon footprint. In response to this, Innovia Films has developed its Encore range of films:
· One is based on renewable bio-based raw materials which reduces the use of fossil based packaging and the carbon footprint.
· The other aids the circular economy by using a chemically recycled polymer and meets regulatory requirements for recycled content.
The Encore films are managed through ISCC PLUS. The ISCC (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification) is a globally applicable sustainability certification system that covers all sustainable feedstocks. They use a mass balance certification process, which is similar to that used for fair trade and renewable energy supply.
Encore films have the same properties as the equivalent fossil based BOPP film, for example high clarity and gloss, high stiffness, excellent water vapour barrier, printable and recyclable. Encore is therefore suitable for use in tobacco applications.
In addition Propafilm™ Strata has been developed, it offers excellent oxygen barrier and aroma barrier. Strata is printable, heat sealable and is designed to move form complex laminate structures to mono material solutions.
