Different food products and applications require a diverse range of technical performance from the packaging films that wrap them and in many cases a single polymer is unable to satisfy all. However through co-extrusion using a combination of different polymers this challenge can be overcome.
Co-extrusion is the process of forming a single filmic structure from more than one type of thermoplastic resin. The intention is to produce a mono filmic structure where each layer contributes a key property that improves the films overall performance. This can be complex, as each functional layer needs to be able to bond to the other. At Innovia, we are capable of producing functional coextruded films with many different layers.
Each layer is so thin that they would not be capable of being made into a film by itself. The combination of several layers allows different functions to be combined into a single film, such as heat sealing properties, printability, anti-mist, high speed performance, optics, barrier, low slip and anti-block capability.
We have a wide range of co-extruded packaging films with varied properties. This ensures that they perform on a range of machines and provide the product protection desired. They include clear, white, cavitated, opaque and matt films.
